Enter Long Beach Regatta presented by Long Beach Group of Sailing Clubs
Published Thu 07 Feb 2019
On a warm and pleasant evening in February 2018 a group of men and women
representing the sailing clubs from Beaumaris to Frankston were sharing the
beautiful sunset, a wine and some convivial chat.
From that evening emerged a commitment to reenergise the Long Beach Group
of sailing clubs, a co operative of 7 clubs including, Beaumaris YC, Parkdale YC,
Mordialloc MYC, Mordialloc SC, Chelsea YC, Carrum SMBC, and Frankston YC,
with the strength of 1500members, a force on the eastern shores of Port Phillip
Bay.
The aim of the group is to support each clubs’ sailing events and provide an
increased capacity to hold a greater range and size of sailing regattas on the
Eastern side of the Bay.
The group’s first major regatta will be the Long Beach Regatta being held at
Frankston YC on the 23rd March 2019. All Long Beach clubs will hold normal
club racing on that day at Frankston rather than at their own clubs, with
finishing results and times being taken by Frankston and sent to participating
clubs. A joint BBQ dinner and presentation will take place after sailing. With a
likely 120 plus boats including off the beach Cats, Dinghies, Trailables and
visiting boats, it’s sure to be a great event.
It is planned to hold the Long Beach Regatta each year, rotating through each
club in turn.
Sailors from outside the Long Beach Group of clubs can register as a visiting
sailor at https://www.trybooking.com/460405 A $10.00 entry fee applies to
visitors.
