Published Fri 20 Dec 2019

WA’s own ‘Enterprise’ skippered by Capt. Anthony Kirke is back in the East for their 2019 campaign. Last weekend they reacquainted the 48 strong fleet with who they were by winning the Bird Island Race, IRC Division 2 on corrected timed.

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s Blue Water Pointscore incorporates several races of which the Bird Island is the fifth and the famous Sydney to Hobart, the final of the six-race series.

The 86nm Bird Island Race is short trip with a morning start and sailing from Sydney Harbour to Bird Islet, approximately 3nm north east of Norah Head, before returning to Sydney Harbour to finish.

Several WA yachts have made the eastern voyage to join the 163 competing yachts for the 75th Sydney to Hobart. Paul Eldrid and Chris Higham aboard ‘Abbotts Vamp’ a Corby 49, Tim Stewart with ‘Anger Management’ a Salona 44 from Esperance, David Davenport with ‘Crush’ a Jeanneau Sunfast 3600 from East Fremantle, Terry Posma from Royal Perth with ‘Jaffa’ a Runnalls 39 and finally Trevor Taylor with his Marten 49 ‘Optimus Prime’.
