Throughout 2023 Australian Sailing is spotlighting specific themes that are integral to the fabric of the sailing community across our nation.

Every second month we have focused on a specific theme that aligns with the Strategic Foundations from our 10-year Strategic Plan ‘SAILING 2032’, with Diversity and Inclusion (February), Volunteers (May), Participation (July) and Sustainability (September) featured already this year.

This November, Australian Sailing is proud to shine the spotlight on Discover Sailing, with aims to encourage clubs to hold their own Discover Sailing Days over the course of the month, and to also encourage people of all abilities to have some fun and give sailing a go.
 

Discover Sailing Day is FREE for all affiliated sailing clubs and intended to be FREE for participants. All clubs can run a Discover Sailing Day.

Discover Sailing Days are a fantastic way to have a great day out with a partner, friends, work colleagues or family. Clubs look forward to showing just how fun, safe, accessible, and affordable sailing is.

We would also like to take this time to thank and celebrate our Discover Sailing Centres (DSC). DSC work tirelessly throughout the year to provide accredited learn to sail courses, essentially providing a gateway for the community into sailing.

DSC are a club or centre which is accredited to deliver Australian Sailing learn to sail, or powerboat programs, through qualified Australian Sailing instructors. They adhere to standards that ensure safety and customer satisfaction, in order to attain and retain this status. Only centres accredited to do so, can display and promote the Discover Sailing Centre brand as they have the services, systems and standards in place to uphold the accredited “Discover Sailing Centre” status.

Without DSC, the incredible Australian Sailing “learn to” initiatives would not be possible or available to the public.

This month will see features from various clubs and Discover Sailing Centres on our website and social media accounts (including Facebook and Instagram), highlighting the benefits of organising and attending a Discover Sailing Day and attending a Discover Sailing Centre to learn how to sail.
