Your Discover Sailing Centre’s Working with Children Check obligations explained
Published Mon 23 Sep 2024
Across Australia, anyone working with children must undergo some sort of pre-screening in the form of a Working with Children Check or equivalent.
Although the systems differ across Australia, there are some key themes:
-
Your Centre must ensure that anyone working with children has the appropriate registration.
-
This is an ongoing requirement, not a one-and-done exercise.
-
The law requires Centres to do this themselves. No-one else can do this for you.
Additionally, most states require organisations to register for an online portal and link their volunteers to that portal. Some states simply require organisations to check their volunteers’ registrations with the relevant government agency and maintain appropriate records.
