COVID-19 VIC Update: 17th December 2020

Published Thu 17 Dec 2020

This update is to let you know the Public Events Framework (PEF) has been updated to align with the current Restricted Activity Directions (RAD) for Victoria.

This update ensures that event organisers are provided with greater clarity for:

  • planning their event
  • understanding whether they could proceed with their event under the existing RAD
  • the approval process and timelines

The most significant changes of which include:

  1. Alignment of the PEF with the RAD to ensure that events and activities of up to 1,000 people can proceed without seeking approval, and only require an existing COVIDSafe Plan for that venue or business, or the registration of a COVIDSafe Event Checklist
  2. An increase in the threshold of a Tier 3 event from 500 people to 1,000 people
  3. The opportunity for venues to apply for just one COVIDSafe Event plan for a series of events or a season of shows – for example theatres, sporting arenas, racing clubs, music venues; and
  4. Phase 1 of the COVIDSafe Summer permitting 75% capacity up to 5,000 people with an approved COVIDSafe Plan and the next phase (Phase 2) permitting 75% up to 25,000 with an approved COVIDSafe Plan. Transition timing is linked to a 14-day rollover subject to public health advice.

The form for creating a COVIDSafe Event Checklist (for Tier 3) can be found here, and a COVIDSafe Event Plan can be found here. Please note the timing required for timely approvals within the guidelines for each stage. Please get your plans and checklists in early to avoid a situation where approvals may not occur in time for your event.

Details on creating a COVIDSafe Plan for community sport and recreation can be found here.

And a reminder from last week, The Victorian Government has launched a new and free QR Code Service which will help venues and businesses to keep records of visitors, and addresses privacy concerns raised with some other QR services.

To use the service, you only need to register the venue or business, download and print a poster containing a Victorian Government QR Code, and display it prominently.

We will bring you further updates as they come to hand, and you can check our Sport and Recreation Victoria website for links to the latest guidance.
