Club Race Officer course at Wallagoot lake Boat club

Published Wed 04 Sep 2019

Australian Sailing ran a Club Race Officer course at Wallagoot lake Boat club last Sunday by Carl Webster and Craig Ferris.

There were 12 participants on the course as most of them will be rostered on to do Race officer duties through the forth coming season. There were some great questions from the group who were very enthusiastic for the topic presented by Carl.

It is a fairly small club so to get that amount of involvement from the members and participants to spend the majority of their “fathers day” getting the qualification was fantastic.

Being a long way from Sydney, visits to region are not easy to facilitate on a regular basis, but the turnout in numbers showed that efforts are appreciated. This was also shown by the level of hospitality shown by the club with Terry Kirby organising lunch for everyone. We did take morning tea for the group in the form of scones with cream and jam, however we were trumped by a nice lunch!

Overall it was a great atmosphere within the club all working well together and their knowledge gained from these courses will make their sailing experiences fun and rewarding.

At the end of the course the participants took the opportunity to ask some very relevant Safety Boat questions which ,as the Chief Powerboat instructor I was more than happy to answer and share some knowledge on the topic, knowing that it would be put to good use.

A big thank you to WLBC and Terry for their hospitality and making the trip worthwhile.
