It is safe place to learn to sail on a freshwater lake with easy viewing from shore for spectators. TSC boasts a fantastic camp ground right beside the lake where families often camp on club weekends and school holidays. The Club meets every second Sunday throughout the year, with sail training for club members in the morning, led by Commodore, Roger Wadley and then racing in the afternoon.
TSC currently has 210 members that consists predominately of families that all sail. For a small Far North Queensland club far away from the ocean, the Tinaroo Sailing Club can boast many World Champions including Breanne, Travis and Kristen Wadley and Duncan and Angus MacGregor. TSC also hosted the very first National Championships of the O'pen Skiff class in 2009.
Classes supported and types of sailing:
All off the beach classes, including; O'pen Skiff, Sabot, Laser, Tasar, RS Aero, Gwen, F18, A Class, Nacra, RS Quests, RS Fevas, Laser 2, 29ers and various antique Wooden Boats from the Wooden Boat Association that utilise the club facilities.
Key club events:
Annual May Day Regatta - held over three days over the May Day Long Weekend. Most sailors camp on the club grounds for the regatta so they can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with a full racing program over the three days, including a frostbite and twilight race. It's quite a tradition with many sailors travelling from all over Queensland every year to attend.
Programs:
The club owns a fleet (7) of RS Fevas used by school groups for high school team racing and learn to sail courses. The club also owns 2x RS Quests used for learn to sail courses. The club owns 5 O'pen Skiffs and 1 Laser. These boats are all used in the learn to sail programs and are available for use by members to race on club days. The Club is an accredited Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Centre.

A recent challenge for TSC was in 2017 due to low water levels on the lake, classes that were capable of average speeds in excess of 6 knots were banned from sailing by Marine Safety for a few months during the dry season. A lot of the sailors who were affected moved into the Club's RS Fevas so they could continue to race at a more leisurely pace.
One of the most recent success stories has been TSC was successful in obtaining $35000 grant funding to purchase a new 5.5m rescue RIB.
Current Commodore Roger Wadley, has been a member for 20 years and is serving his third year as Commodore.
