Check In TAS App

Published Thu 25 Mar 2021

The Director of Public Health has determined that, from 1 May 2021, the free Check in TAS app will be the only system used for collecting contact tracing information in Tasmania.

Contact tracing is mandatory for sport and recreation organisations in Tasmania. This is for training, events, competition and any other gatherings longer than 15 minutes. Each individual attending the facility for longer than 15 minutes is required to check in, regardless of their role.

What if my organisation already has its own system for contact tracing?

As of 1 May 2021, Check-In Tas is the only system that can be used for collecting contact tracing. Organisations will no longer be able to use alternative systems.

Who needs a Code?

Each Check in TAS QR code is assigned to a physical address. If you hire a facility, the specific location should have its own Check in Tas QR Code that members, staff, volunteers, spectators and visitors should use.

Please talk to the venue owner (Council, School etc) about access to the Check In Tas QR code.

Note that where multiple areas of a facility are hired out, each area should have its own Check In Tas QR code so it is important to ensure your participants and visitors are aware of which QR code they need to scan.

If you operate at multiple facilities, you must ensure each facility has a Check in Tas QR Code.

What about people who do not have smartphones?

If a person does not have a smartphone or is unable to use one, others attending the premises with that person can use their own phone to check that person in. Alternatively, an organisation can register a patron’s details using that organisations’ device.

Organisations must use their best endeavours to require patrons to check in, this could include:

Active monitoring of points of entry.
Requesting that patrons show staff/volunteers the ‘green tick’.
Signage or messaging in clear view advising of the need to check in.
