Cat Classic

The 2019 Hobie Class Association of WA Catamaran Classic concluded earlier this week at the Nedlands Yacht Club. 29 entries competed in the two-day event with light and shifty conditions forcing the fleet back to shore and some races abandoned. A total of five races were completed after the midday sea breeze filled in.
Gavin Colby and Kai Coleman aboard their F18 ‘Lamborghini’, despite finishing mid field in the final race, claimed overall podium honours with two firsts and a second and third. Brett and Lani Burvill were nipping at their hulls the whole event with one first, two seconds and fourths to finish just two points behind to claim second overall.
A further two point behind in third overall was Gavin Parker and Dan Brown aboard their F18 ‘Sun Industries’. A close fought regatta with plenty of time spent on the shore for low wind antics and socialising. The view from the clubhouse was colourful on the 30-degree day with, almost as many, vibrant mainsails and jibs fluttering in the low wind. What a way to start off the season.
