Batemans Bay Regatta coming up
Published Tue 18 Mar 2025
Batemans Bay is a triangular shaped indent in the NSW South Coast partly sheltered by the offshore Tollgate Islands. It forms a fantastic ocean sailing venue which provides some challenging conditions but is safe for experienced sailors.
Since the 1970s Batemans Bay Sailing Club has been running an annular regatta on the weekend closest to ANZAC day. This year the regatta will be held on April 26th and 27th. Entries are open to dinghies, catamarans, trailerable yachts and sports boats.
About 40 to 60 entries are expected, with strong fleets in the Lightweight Sharpie, Laser and VXOne classes. It is a great venue for sports boat and trailerable yacht sailors who can enjoy free mast up storage for their boats over the weekend.
Competitors come from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and all over southeast NSW. It is particularly popular for Canberra sailors wanting to get some coastal sailing in. Several classes use it as a season closing event. The social focus will be the curry night at the BBSC clubhouse on the Saturday evening.
The Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions and online entry facility are up on the BBSC website www.bbsc.org.au.
