Authority to Audit a Boat
Published Mon 04 Nov 2019
As an Equipment Auditor you are accredited to audit Special Regulations compliance to Cat 1 - 7 as a National Equipment Auditor or Cat 3 - 7 as a Club Equipment Auditor. The authority to do this comes from a requirement in a Notice of Race that requires an Audit to be completed and a form to be submitted with other entry documents; it is a rules that gives you this authority and accreditation that gives you recognition.
Click https://www.sailingresources.org.au/officials/equipment-auditors/ for the complete Equipment Auditors Resources Page. This includes availability of forms, course accreditation information, a list of auditors and FAQ’s. By clicking on the course accreditation information, you will find the Equipment Auditors Policy, Auditors Manual and Audit preparation advice. We recommend that you forward the Preparation Advice Document to owners before you conduct their audit.
You are reminded that you have also been endorsed by your club to undertake this activity and that you are called upon to do audits on the basis of a Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions that either compel an audit or call for spot audits. You may be asked by a competitor for advice or to check a specific item at any time. If you are uncertain about any item, you can seek advice from your State based Senior National Equipment Auditor.
You must always ask permission to come aboard and be aware of your compliance with the National Equipment Auditors Code of Conduct, which can be seen https://cdn.revolutionise.com.au/site/a0evroefd8vvuobr.pdf.
Always forward the Preparation For Audit Advice Document to owners before you conduct their audit.
If their declaration is not completed and signed, then we strongly advise you not to proceed with the Audit.
If you undertake and Audit and it is not completed, then once the owner has rectified the non-compliance, you must then complete the Audit and sign off. Evidence of rectification can be provided by electronic means to the Auditor if they are happy to accept this.
