Australian Sailing has welcomed the appointment of Mr Mark Arbib as CEO of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), as announced by the body in Sydney today.

Mr Arbib comes into the role with 30-years of high-profile leadership experience in sports administration, commercial strategy and governance, including time as the Federal Minister for Sport in the Labour Government from 2010-2012.

“We are looking forward to working with Mark at this critical time for sport in our country,” said Australian Sailing CEO Ben Houston.

“Brisbane 2032 will provide a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Olympic sports, including sailing.

“With the recent response to the 100-Day Review that the B2032 Olympic sailing will be hosted in Townsville and The Whitsundays, we look forward to working with the AOC to capitalise on the home Olympic event and in the lead up the Los Angeles Games.”

Houston also highlighted the important contribution made to the AOC and the Olympic movement by outgoing CEO, Matt Carrol AM.

“We would also like to thank and acknowledge Matt for the work in supporting Australian Sailing and his work in leading the AOC through some extremely challenging times, including the difficulties of the postponed Tokyo Games.
