Australian Sailing supports Pride Month
Published Fri 31 May 2024
Australian Sailing is excited to be celebrating Pride Month again this year, as the governing body for the sport looks to ensure all Australians feel welcome at their local sailing club.
Diversity and Inclusion is one of the six strategic foundations of our strategic plan Sailing 2032 and this year the Board has made a commitment to develop a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion framework, and has set up an external Advisory Group to guide this important work which will be released later this year.
Renewing its membership with Pride in Sport, Australian Sailing is taking concrete steps to promote inclusivity. This month, Pride in Sport will deliver Allyship training to all Australian Sailing staff, with plans to extend this training to local sailing clubs later in the year. Additionally, a guide will be produced to help clubs and class associations and their members to become allies.
We are very pleased to announce that Amelia Catt, former Australian Sailing Squad 470 sailor and now Performance Coach, is standing again as Thrive with Pride Ambassador for the Australian Institute of Sport and has been appointed as one of three Lead Ambassadors to guide other sports in this space.
To show our support for LGBTQ communities and to celebrate Pride Month, occurring this June across the world, Australian Sailing and the Australian Sailing Team will again be incorporating colours from the Progress Pride flag into their logos.
With these initiatives, Australian Sailing aims to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants, ensuring that the sport of sailing is accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
