Australian Sailing seeking expressions of interest for World Sailing Offshore World Championships
Published Mon 23 Dec 2019
With the addition of the mixed two-person keelboat offshore event to the Olympic slate for Paris 2024, Australian Sailing is looking to collect a list of sailors who are interested in competing at the Offshore Worlds to be held in Malta in October 2020.
Australian Sailing has registered an entry for an Australian team in the event, and as more information comes to hand for the event it will be shared with those on the contact list.
Those who do register their interest can be expected to share their level of experience in sailing, along with plans on how they intend to fund and execute their campaign for the event.
It should be noted that interested parties will need to ensure that they can self-fund their campaign.
Information from World Sailing regarding the World Championships will continue to be shared early in 2020, with Australian Sailing now working on its selection policy for the World Championships.
World Sailing have signaled that there will be 20 entries at the World Championships, so if more than 20 country nominations are received then there will be a country qualification event in Europe in May/June 2020.
“This is an exciting time for not just our offshore sailing community, but for all Australians as we begin our journey to Olympic gold in this exciting new discipline,” said Australian Sailing CEO Ben Houston.
With the equipment for the mixed two person keelboat offshore event yet to be announced, World Sailing have confirmed that the 2020 Offshore World Championships will be raced in L30 yachts.
“Australian Sailing was quick to accept the nomination for the event, and we look forward to sharing more information as it comes to hand with those interested parties,” Houston continued.
“I certainly encourage anyone who is considering mounting a campaign for 2024 to register their details, and thus ensure you are the first to get that crucial information such as selection policies, safety requirements and race rules.”
If there are yacht owners who might be interested in supporting a campaign through funding or the use of their yachts and/or equipment, then please complete the form and select “supporter” from the drop-down menu.
