Australian Sailing reforms recognised by Sport Australia
Published Thu 17 Oct 2019
Australian Sailing has received glowing praise from the Sport Australia for its governance reforms, collectively known as One Sailing.
The ASC has recently written to congratulate Australian Sailing and acknowledge the significant transformation that the sport has undergone; as well as the collaborative approach and contribution of all stakeholders.
Sport Australia noted that some of the benefits have included 6% revenue growth per annum, operational expense savings of 5% per annum and 25% increase in government funding. It has also contributed to strong membership growth in 2018 and a 10% increase in course numbers, all leading to a quantified benefit of circa $800,000 per annum due to the implementation of One Sailing.
The reforms see Sailing positioned as a leader in sports governance, with a more efficient and sustainable structure, able to deliver nationally aligned participation and performance programs more effectively.
In response, AS President Matt Allen AM commented that it had been a collective effort and would not have been possible without the support of clubs, state associations and the ASC.
“Sailing recognised that it needed to evolve. The changes were significant and will hopefully underpin a strong future for the sport at all levels- from participation at club level, to Olympic success”.
