Australian Sailing Employs first North Queensland Club Services Officer

Published Thu 05 Sep 2019

Australian Sailing has employed the first ever North Queensland Club Services Officer. Mathew Himson started with Australian Sailing on the 1st of September and will be playing an active role in the grass roots development of sport in North Queensland.

Mathew has been living and working within the North Queensland sailing community for the past 2 years and running the Regional Development Camps and establishing the North Qld Laser Squad.

Mathew originates from the Tasmanian sailing community and has a vast list of classes and regattas under his belt. He was also in the Victorian sailing scene for 2 years where he not only raced but supported the running of the schools team racing program. He hopes to bring some of his project management experience into his new role, as well as his enthusiasm to boost participation and retention in sailing.

He thoroughly enjoys the endless summer in the tropics, and is looking forward to supporting the clubs and sailing community to make the most of the stunning sailing environment in the Whitsundays and inside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

“Mat’s role is a part time role working a 5 day fortnight but I hope it can be expanded into a full time role in not to distant future” commented Ben Callard, Australian Sailing Regional Manager for Queensland.

Mat will soon be contacting the clubs in the region to organise a visit and catch up to learn about how he can best help the clubs in the region. Initially, the best way to contact Mat is by email at mathew.himson@sailing.org.au
