Another Successful WinterSail in 2021

Published Thu 22 Jul 2021

WinterSail 2021 was a great success, 33 registered entries for the event which was a good number based on the fact we were coming out of a 4th Covid lock down in Melbourne and NSW was going into an extended one making everyone nervous re the event even happening.

Feedback over the 3 days and the post event survey was very positive not only for the Training -Regatta but our Coaches, Volunteers, and general comfort and friendly atmosphere at the APYC club.
Our motto for this year was “Challenge, Improve, Enjoy” and I believe the entrants certainly gained in all those areas. Personally it was fun seeing the entrants doing an on water, non sailing relay event to get the body and lungs working before the more serious training exercises and final race.

The weather gods were kind to us with cold mornings but mostly clear days with light winds until the Sunday afternoon leading to the race when the winds picked up.

I cannot thank the volunteers enough for their help and assistance over the Regatta, from unloading trailers, giving directions, cleaning up rooms, registrations, a little assistance with rigging boats for those unfamiliar to the boats allocated, to the many ladies who managed the galley and Covid cleaning for the event. I am always amazed at how many members put their hands up to help and assist when it comes to club events. Thank you again.

You will soon see on our APYC web site many photos taken of the event, again thanks to our club photographers for their time and efforts especially during their work day.

The only sad happening was when our drone pilot was taking action shots of Laser 4.7s and the drone was attacked we were told by a bird (an Albert Park Vulture?) and knocked out of the sky only to be lost in the waters. A search team went out but the drone never to be found.
