Advance notice of Yachting NSW's intention to voluntarily cancel registration
Published Fri 02 Nov 2018
In 2016, YNSW and all other Member Yachting Associations (MYA’s) agreed to move towards a new governance model under the banner of “One Sailing”. This was done to strengthen the national governance framework of the sport, reduce duplication, create more efficient management/ organisational structures and develop closer relationships with Clubs and Classes.
To facilitate this, the MYA’s transferred all staff to AS who were responsible for day to day operations. An “Implementation Agreement” was signed between AS and all the MYA’s to ensure delivery of services.
From the YNSW boards perspective, this process has worked well and it is now ready to further modernise the structure. The YNSW directors have consulted with the board of AS, other MYA’s and spoken to a number of clubs; and have come to the conclusion that YNSW no longer needs to operate or exist as a separate entity.
To facilitate this, the AS Constitution was amended at the recent Annual General Meeting held on 20thOctober to allow clubs to become direct voting members of Australian Sailing. The changes had unanimous support of the MYA’s.
The proposed change of structure should have minimal impact on clubs. It is intended to be a logical step in simplifying the governance framework of Sailing and the YNSW board will be recommending that clubs support the Resolution when it is put to a vote.
A formal notice of the meeting will be distributed to clubs on 12th November and it is intended that a Special General Meeting will be held on 10th December.
A summary of the key issues, the Regional Advisory Committee and club voting rights are attached for clubs to consider. In the meantime if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either myself, members of the YNSW board or David Edwards at Australian Sailing.
