A taste of the Furious 50's and Roaring 40's for WA

Published Fri 14 Jun 2019

Last weekend was set to be a busy one on the waters of the Swan River in Perth, however Mother Nature had other ideas.

With the winter solstice less than a week away, a weather system blew up from the Furious Fifties and through the Roaring Forties to bring blisteringly cold temperatures and savage winds. These conditions buffeted the west coast relentlessly for almost a week.

The Royal Perth Yacht Club’s scheduled and ever-popular Gra Rosser Race was abandoned mid-week due to the bleak forecast.

With the Claremont Yacht Club’s Lloyd Anderson Invitational Time Trialling Race was postponed also.

The post-race warmth of the carvery, buffet and crème brulee will have to wait for the next available weekend slot in the calendar.

The RPYC Gra Rosser is tentatively book for late August allowing the teams some more practice times and hopefully more favourable sailing conditions. Next week we can say Spring is just around the corner. Shiver on. For more information, click here.
