What an incredible day for Southport Yacht Club’s Watersport Centre at Summer on the Lake!

On Saturday 18^th January 2025, over 640 participants joined in at Oxenford Lake for a free Discover Sailing Day. It was truly a fantastic fun day for all. From first-time sailors to seasoned pros, everyone had the chance to get on the water and experience the joy of sailing and stand up paddleboarding (SUP). 

The event was packed with exciting activities for all ages, VIP tent, bouncy slide, food and beverage options etc. Families came together to enjoy the lake, as kids and adults alike shared in the fun. Whether learning to sail for the first time, trying SUP for the first time, or racing across the water, there was something for everyone.

The weather was perfect for most of the day, with sunny skies and calm waters offering ideal conditions for everyone to enjoy their time on the water. Unfortunately,

a storm rolled in around 4 PM, cutting the day short. However, the storm didn't spoil the mood as participants had already made the most of the perfect weather before it arrived.

A big thank you to everyone who joined in, from participants to volunteers, for making this such a memorable day. The enthusiasm and energy were a huge part of what made this event so great, and we can’t wait to see you again next time.

From this event, the club had the largest intake of kids and teens for upcoming learn to sail courses with over 60 kids and 30 teens registered for Term 1.
