75 Years of Sailing the Parramatta River

Published Thu 18 Feb 2021

Concord & Ryde Sailing Club (CRSC) has been sailing the Parramatta River between Putney and Rhodes since 1945.

The Club will mark its 75th season and pay tribute to the past, present and future, with a range of activities and events. Whilst a large party may have to wait until our lives are less restricted by COVID-19 we are still determined to celebrate our fabulous family friendly club and its association with the local and sailing communities.

To kick off the 75th Anniversary Celebrations, the Heron class will be holding an inter-club race on the weekend of the 27th February. The Herons are celebrating 55 years of sailing at CRSC. They were first sailed on these waters when the Club was on the other side of the river. Herons from all over Sydney are expected to attend, so it should be a great weekend.

CRSC is committed to working within a COVID-19 safe framework and takes its responsibility to its members and the community very seriously. All sailors are required to check in to the Club and practice social distancing throughout each sailing day.

Whether you are an experienced sailor or have just been dreaming of becoming one, it is time to come on down to Concord Ryde Sailing Club (CRSC).

We are located at Kissing Point Park, corner of Waterview St and Yaralla Rd Putney. Each Saturday afternoon many dinghies take part in racing on the Parramatta River between Ryde Bridge, Majors Bay and Brays Bay.

Several different types of dinghies take part including: Spirals, Tasars, NS14s, Herons, Sabots, Optimists, Catamarans and Firebugs. Sailors of all skill levels are catered for, from beginners to State & National Champions.

The Club also has an active Cadet fleet and popular Learn to Sail program for young sailors and adults. Our Club is registered as an Active Kid provider. This enables two $100 vouchers per child, for parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport and active recreation costs each year. CRSC accepts one voucher per child per course.

Junior Sailing Courses
This course is designed to progress the younger sailor (8 to 15 years old) from beginner to advanced racer. Courses are conducted each Saturday in the sailing season (September to April) from 9.00am to noon (excluding Christmas and Easter holidays).  Modules are 5 weeks duration commencing with Start Sailing 1, Start Sailing 2 and Better Sailing. Course commencement dates are set out on our website

School Holiday Camps
These camps are designed to enable young sailors (8 to 15 years old) to complete the Start Sailing 1 module over three consecutive days in the School holidays (9.00am-4.00pm).

Adult Learn To Sail
Many of our sailors have graduated from our Adult Learn to Sail Program. The program is suitable for both adults and teenagers over 15 and ideal for families who wish to learn together. The program is conducted over five Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12 noon, which includes theory. Our program is structured around CRSC's fleet of Spiral dinghies. Graduates from CRSC's Adult Learn to Sail Program are usually competent to sail a small dinghy unaided and can graduate to our Intermediate Spiral Fleet to continue to build their skills.
Life jackets and dinghies used in training can be provided by the Club. Once the season starts the courses fill up very quickly.
