Published Thu 14 Nov 2024
The Oceania and Australian ILCA Associations are pleased to announce the eight young female sailors from Oceania districts selected for the Oceania ILCA Solidarity program. They will come together and participate in the ILCA4 youth division at the 2025 ILCA (Laser) Australian and Oceania Championships at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in January
Solidarity is about encouraging young female sailors (age between 13 & 16 yrs), who have recently progressed or are about to progress into the ILCA 4 (Laser 4.7) dinghy class, to participate in a world class sailing championship. The participants receive a free entry to the championship and social events, and ILCA4 charter boats & coaching for this regatta.
2025 ILCA Oceania Solidarity Program representatives are:
ILCA District | Name | Club |
QLD | Evie McGuire | Southport YC |
NSW/ACT | Amelia (Milly) Thorne | Hunters HIll SC |
VIC | Alexandria Ewart | Davies Bay YC |
TAS | Genevieve Strutton | Royal YC of Tasmania |
SA | Sophia Homes | Brighton & Seacliff YC |
WA | Robyn Mary Tutty | Hillary YC |
NZ | Lucy Luxford | Charteris Bay YC |
Solomon Islands | Renee Baragamu | Solomon Is Sailing Association |
Program organisers from the Australian ILCA association are delighted this year to have the support of Australian Sailing, with the Solidarity squad supported by two Queensland based coaches, Mel Watson & Libby Kirby. They will provide on water coaching plus briefings on shore for the group before and during the ILCA Nationals.
The objective of the Solidarity program is to develop lifelong skills and ignite a passion for sailing when they return to their clubs as enthusiastic ambassadors. This is the third year for the ILCA Solidarity program. The feedback is that most of the previous participants have continued ILCA sailing with a number progressing to the ILCA 6 and participating in State and National events.
