Published Fri 04 Oct 2024
The 2024 Zhik Youth Sail South Australia event, held from 28 September to 1 October at Largs Bay Sailing Club, was a resounding success.
The action-packed Regatta and Coaching Clinic prioritised skill building, social connection and camaraderie, and showcased the talent of 65 young sailors from across South Australia.
Ben Callard, National General Manager ‑ Club Support at Australian Sailing, said it was great to see so many up-and-coming sailors taking part in the four-day event.
“The 2024 Zhik Youth Sail South Australia event saw more than 60 young sailors from around the state come together for four days of learning, collaboration and racing,” said Callard.
“The South Australian sailing community shone throughout the regatta, with clubs from across South Australia represented.”
The event’s growth over the last few years has been impressive, with this year being no different.
Featuring eight different classes, the Youth Sail event offered a diverse range of challenges for the next generation of South Australia’s sailors.
“It was fantastic to see not only the number of sailors in attendance but also their enthusiasm and rate of development over the course of the event,” said Callard.
“In addition to their time on the water, an engaging visit from Paris Olympian Jim Colley ensured the sailors left inspired, making the event a success.
“Thanks to all who attended, we look forward to welcoming you to South Australia’s Youth Sail event next year.”
Australian Sailing extends its thanks to Largs Bay Sailing Club for hosting this year's event and congratulates Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club for winning the South Australian Inter club Trophy for 2024.
Sincere thanks are also extended to sponsors Zhik and ESP for their support of the event and the next generation of South Australia’s sailors.
