2024 ZHIK YOUTH SAIL SA Youth Championships and Coaching Clinic

Published Thu 26 Sep 2024

Let’s get the season started.

Fifty-five boats from across South Australia and interstate have entered the 2024 Youth Sail SA Youth Championships, which will take place this weekend, September 28th and 29th, at Largs Bay Sailing Club.

The event brings together youth sailors in a range of classes, including International 420, International Cadet, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, IQ Foil, and Optimist fleets Open, Intermediate, and Green.

The event has moved from the traditional November date to September to combine with the SA Youth Coaching Clinic as a school holiday event. The four-day event will consist of two days of championship racing followed by two days of training with class coaches to build on the learning from the event.

On Saturday, 28th Sept, all sailors registered for the regatta are invited to a free burger dinner and to meet Olympian 49er Sailor Jim Colley, who will participate in a Q&A session with our very own SA coach of the year, Brady Lowe.

The event is set to be a big one, with club collaboration coming together led by Largs Bay Sailing Commodore Matthew Carter Club with PRO Malcolm Hughes from Adelaide Sailing Club and Green Fleet extraordinaire Brett Yardley and RO Lisa Brock from Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club.

On the coaching front at the Youth Coaching Clinic on Monday 30th September and Tuesday 1st October, we welcome TAS State Performance Pathways Advisor (SPPA) Amelia Catt to join Lead Coach Australian Sailing’s SA Performance Pathways Coordinator Brady Lowe to assist and mentor coaches Ben Hinks (ILCA) Stuart Templeton (ILCA) Jonas Barrett (420) Harry Higgins (OPTI) Quinn Auricht (OPTI) and Max Sturman (Intl. Cadet)

We thank Largs Bay Sailing Club Commodore Matthew Carter and RO Peter Littledike and all the volunteers who assisted with the event, including Judge Wayne Thompson.

Thank you to prize sponsor ZHIK and Largs Bay Sailing Club sponsors Port Adelaide Enfield Council and Maritime Constructions.

Good Luck to all competitors.
