2020/21 Sail CQ Challenge Successful First Year!

Published Thu 06 May 2021

The Sail CQ Club challenge was created to foster good relations between clubs in the region and to help with participation at already established events. The top 6 boats in four Divisions earned points for themselves and their club when they competed in any of the signature events.

There are five clubs who host  the Sail CQ Series:

  • Mackay Sailing Club – Festival of Sails
  • Port Curtis Sailing Club – All Boats Regatta
  • Port Denison Sailing Club – Sail Bowen
  • Whitsunday Sailing Club – Sail Airlie
  • Keppel Bay Sailing Club – May Day Regatta.

The Sail CQ Series has seen 203 competitors from 29 different clubs (including some interstate clubs) participate.  Of those competitors, 27% participated in more than one of the events.  42% were under the age of 16 and 20% over the age of 55. What was fantastic to see was how many different classes attended these regattas and how much fun the competitors had.

In the end Keppel Bay Sailing Club walked away with the 2020/21 Most Successful Club overall with  Mackay Sailing Club coming a close second.  Congratulations to Josh King from Whitsunday Sailing Club for taking out the Junior Division.  Mack Mitchell from Port Denison Sailing Club for winning the Youth Division. Michael Cheeseman from Mackay Sailing Club for the Open Monohull Division and Daryl Skinner from Keppel Bay Sailing Club for taking out the Multihull Division.

Congratulations to all the clubs and the competitors for a fabulous series. We look forward to the 2021/22 series.

Make sure you save the dates!
