2019 Christies to Hobart Onkaparinga Coast Yacht Classic
Published Mon 18 Feb 2019
Christies Sailing Club was incorporated in 1958 and has continued over the years to support and encourage competitive sailing in the south of Adelaide.
This sailing season we are hosting a long race from Christies Beach to the wreck of the HMAS Hobart, which lies in waters just off the coast from Wirrina, and back. The name of the race is the ‘Christies to Hobart, Onkaparinga Coast Yacht Classic’ and will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 2nd and 3rd of March 2019. There will have both trailerable and keel boat divisions.
We have held trials for this race over the past two years and these have been a huge success. This year we want the race to be even bigger and better and plan to attract entries from all over South Australia and perhaps even beyond.
The first leg will start at 8.00am on Saturday 2nd March with a start line for keel boats adjacent to the Port River shipping control tower and adjacent to the Christies Sailing Clubhouse for trailer yachts. The finish line will be adjacent to the Wirrina Marina. Boat trailers can be securely stowed at the clubs hardstand at O’Sullivan’s Beach Marina and berths will be provided overnight for yachts at Wirrina Marina.
There will be a dinner at the Wirrina Caravan Park on Saturday night and breakfast served on Sunday morning before the second leg of the race starts at 9.00am on Sunday morning 3rd March 2019. The second leg will be from Wirrina back to the finish line adjacent to the Christies Sailing Clubhouse.
