Successful 2018/19 season for Mordialloc Sailing Club
Published Mon 03 Jun 2019
For a small off the beach club, Mordialloc is very fortunate to have such wonderful and committed volunteers that support the club sailors. It is these members that keep the club active and strong.
It has been a very successful 2018/19 season both on and off the water with only a few days being lost to bad weather.
From an on-water point of view, the resurgence in the sharpie fleet has continue this season whilst the Tasar fleet has made a terrific come back in the second half with up to five boats on the water and anyone time.
Both the Laser and Sabre fleets have continued to enjoy good numbers and strong attendances each weekend.
The Tackers program has continued to do great work with the juniors on Saturday mornings using the Aussie Opties and the O'pen Skiffs.
Adding to the success of the season was a number of single day events as well as several regattas.
These included:
*Mordialloc College's wellness day at the club with one hundred Year 9 boys.
* Contact with Aspendale Gardens primary school.
* The Long Beach Regatta at Frankston (LBG)
* Family Fun Day
* The Pacer Fun day
* Discover Sailing days
* The LWS state titles
* The Mosquito Nationals
All this is only possible through our volunteers who were recognised, and rightly so, at an informal 'Thank You' evening conducted in early May.
The club also successfully applied for the following events to be conducted from late August through to January 2020.
These were:
* Victorian dingy championships for 2019 and 2020 (31 Aug to 1 Sept).
* Pacer Nationals (Dec - Jan) whilst the Super cup for O'pen skiffs in November is still T.B.A.
*and the big event - The O'pen skiffs (BICs) Nationals where 80 to 100 competitors are expected to attend along with family and friends.
A lot of work will be involved in putting together these events in the coming months but it will be a pleasurable task to see their manifestation in due course.
