Course Overview
The National Equipment Auditor (NEA) Scheme provides a system for organising authorities to nominate NEA's to audit boats for Category 1-7 races.
The NEA course is a free safety service provided to help ensure safety standards are consistently met through EA's understanding of equipment compliance and the special regulations.
All equipment auditing theory and examination is covered in he CEA online course which is a prerequisite to this course. The NEA course as a result is streamlined into a practical course which reviews:
- The Cat 1-7 auditing forms (focussing on Cat1-2).
- All Category specific updates to the Special Regulations.
- Procedures to be utilized whilst auditing.
- Where to obtain specific auditing information from the Racing Rules of Sailing and Special Regulations.
To become accredited as an Australian Sailing NEA you are required to:
- Be a member of an Australian Sailing affiliated club.
- Be curently qualified as a CEA (have completed the CEA online course if not already).
- Have participated in Category 1 or 2 Races.
- Attend the Australian Sailing Nation Equipment Auditors Course and be assessed performing a Category 1 or 2 audit.
- Submit a National Equipment Auditor online application form for accreditation.

Course Prerequisites
- Currently accredited as a Club Equipment Auditor.
- Possess Category 1 and 2 race experience.
- Read the Equipment Auditors Code of Conduct then agree to abide by it when registering online for this NEA Course.
Who should do this course?
This course is for anyone interested in assisting clubs with providing a safety service for sailing racing. Those who may be interested in becoming a National Equipment Auditor include club and local volunteers, current and former club sailors who no longer actively participate in the sport.
Course Outcome
The course aims to develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- General auditing skills - risk management.
- Fundamental measuring.
- Assessment and reporting skills.
Participants will become accredited as a National Equipment Auditor; a person capable of auditing Cat 1-7 racing vessels.
