49er FX National Pathways Camp

Purpose – An Australian Sailing Team camp to promote the exploration of the FX class to inspire, guide, and connect young women across Australia who have an interest in Olympic campaigning.

Sailors will be offered to attend the camp based on performance program coach feedback, athlete depth charts and recent youth pathway class results of interest.

While there is no fee to attend, sailors will be responsible for covering their travel, accommodation, and meals. We encourage sailors and athletes to bring their boats and equipment for the FX and 29er classes. Sailors under 18 must have the support of a parent or guardian to be present

Objectives

·       Promote a fun, safe and engaging environment to test Olympic equipment and learn more about the specifics of campaigning in the FX class.

·       For those categorised and engaged in sailing in the FX class currently, AST will provide some observation, support and feedback from our leading AST and Futures development coaches, Victor Paya, Traks Gordon and Brady Lowe.

·       As a wider group, get out on the water as much as possible across both the FX and 29er class (conditions pending) to learn what it takes to sail skiffs well

·       Enable the coaching team to get eyes on a broader group of sailors and athletes to know more about who is out there and interested in FX Olympic campaigning

·       Connect with one another and form the basis of future potential partnerships or training partners

·       Access and try out limited AST FX equipment that can be hard to put together and try without guidance

Staff involved

·       Victor Paya – AST Women’s FX coach

·       Traks Gordon – NSWIS double handed coach and Futures coach

·       Brady Lowe – SA Pathways Coordinator and Futures coach

·       Haylee Outteridge – Lead NSWIS Performance Program

·       Ash Brunning – National Pathway Technical Manager

Equipment

·       If you are a current 49er FX sailor, we ask that you supply your own boats

·       A limited number of AS boats will be available for sailors who don’t have equipment

·       Bring your own harness, helmet (if you wish) and other safety equipment you feel is required

·       For sailors in the 29er’s we required you to bring you own boat
