In order to be assessed by a Senior Instructor, you will be required to attend at least one day of a Powerboat Instructor course. These details can be arranged with the Australian Sailing WA staff.

Overview

The re-accreditation process aims to ensure quality instruction is occurring and provides participants an opportunity to be updated with the latest resources and information. Participants will deliver a practical session and receive feedback and support.

Prerequisites

• Be 16 years old and Water Confident
• Comply with the State/Territory legislation including, but not only, child protection laws (if applicable in that state). Please click here for details on your State/Territories  child protection requirements.
• Hold the level of competence in the Program you wish to instruct
• Hold a current HLTAID003/011 - Provide First Aid Certificate
• Hold a  current maritime licence, or state equivalent
• Hold an Australian Sailing Powerboat Handling Certificate

• Hold current Powerboat Instructor Qualification (cannot be lapsed more than 12 months)

• Complete the Australian Sailing Instructor General Principles - online learning course 

Who should do this course?

This course is for anyone looking to reaccredit their Powerboat Instructor qualification and continue instructing the Powerboat program at an accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Outcome

This process aims to maintain skills and knowledge in the following areas:

• General Instructing skills - Communication, planning, etc
• Fundamental skills: low speed manoeuvres, high speed manoeuvres, MOB recovery, etc
• Providing feedback

Pending your success, you will gain the Powerboat Instructor qualification for a further 5 years.
