Saturday - Theory in the classroom at the Qld Maritime Training Services Room in the grounds of Royal Qld Yacht Squadron (report to Reception)
Sunday - On water practice at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron
Course Overview
The Club Umpire course is aimed at educating Australian Sailing members in the basics to conduct consistent and fair Teams or Match racing at a club level. This includes techniques to correctly position an Umpire vessel, consistently make fair on-water calls and lead an Umpire team at Club level.
To become accredited as an Australian Sailing Club Umpire you are required to:
- Be a member of an Australian Sailing affiliated club.
- Attend the Club Umpire Seminar, or,
- Supply a Letter of Endorsement from your club or class association.
- Be vetted and approved by Australian Sailing (the qualification being awarded once all accreditation policy requirements are met).
Currently Club Umpires may wish to accredit via submitting evidence of prior seminar attendance or a Letter of Endorsement from your club or class association (within the last four years). Evidence can be submitted to Australian Sailing via the Club Umpire Accreditation Application Form.

There are no pre-requisites for participation in this seminar.
Course Price
This seminar is free of charge although the Officials polo is no longer provided.
Who should do this course?
People who have a keen interest in Sailing and want to participate in another facet of the sport. Those who may be interested in becoming an Umpire include sailors who enjoy the intricacies and interpretations associated with the Racing Rules of Sailing and can make quick and timely decisions in boat on boat incidents.
Course Outcome
Participants will become accredited as a Club Umpire; An individual capable of being a Lead Umpire at Club level, displaying boat skills (driving and positioning) and Knowledge of “the game”.
