Yachting Tasmania- Notice of General Meeting
Yachting Tasmania has called a General Meeting to be held on 25th July at RYCT.
The purpose of the meeting is for Member Clubs to vote on a proposal to Voluntarily Cancel the Registration of the Tasmanian Yachting Association Inc (YTAS). If passed, YTAS will be replaced by a Tasmanian Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), a committee of Australian Sailing.
In 2016, YTAS and all other Member Yachting Associations (MYA’s) agreed to move towards a new governance structure model under the banner of “One Sailing”. This was done to strengthen the national governance framework of the sport, reduce duplication, create more efficient management/ organisational structure and develop closer relationships with Clubs and Classes.
YTAS believes it no longer needs to exist as a separate entity, which will further streamline and strengthen the governance structure of sailing here in Tasmania. YTAS has decided Voluntary Cancelation as the best option, particularly following the success of YNSW’s Voluntary Cancelation in 2018. The AS Constitution allows clubs to become direct voting members of Australian Sailing.
The proposed change of structure should have minimal impact on clubs. It is intended to be a logical step in simplifying the governance framework of sailing. The YTAS Committee initially raised this matter with clubs at the 2019 Club Conference and phoned all clubs earlier this year to discuss the progress. YTAS has been ready to proceed this matter for a few months now, however Covid19 delayed proceedings preventing a Special General Meeting which must take place in person. With restrictions easing YTAS is now ready to call a Special General Meeting.
