WAXIT Multihulls in WA

Jervoise Bay Sailing Club held the WAXIT Multihull National Championships over the New Year period on the waters of Owens Anchorage, just north of Cockburn Sound in some testing and trying conditions. Their hook, on the Facebook page said it all “Bring your sanni, your loo rolls and your mad sailing skills as we enjoy six days of sailing and shenanigans on the Owen Anchorage.”

38 boats competed throughout the event with many enjoying the free camping provided by the host JBSC. Many more bid farewell to 2020 and welcomed 2021 at the New Years party as sailors, staff and families partied just as hard as they were racing. Conditions encouraged crews and vessels to push to the limit with many finding that line and exceeding it in spectacular fashion.
 

Hobie 16’s, F18’s, Nacra’s, Windrush’s and A Class boats were out flying their hulls and trimming to within an inch of their capabilities and loving every second of their new year adventure.

“Hobie Polarized” with Cam Owen and Susan Ghent took a few races to find their groove but finished with 11 of the 15 races on the podium to take home the Championship. “Blew By You” with Darren Smith and Claire Bisgood not far behind finished in second, James Clark’s “Cowboy Tuned” lassoed third with the Epps duo of Phil and Caitlyn aboard “No Excuse” nipping at his heels.

The Nacra WA State Championships were held concurrently with Bevan Chrimes and Ben Hillman “Pandemic” winning the F18 division with Rob Smith aboard “Smoke On The Water” taking home the 14 Square division title. Full results at JBSC Facebook page or visit sailres.com.
