The 2020 Australian Sailing Club Conferences

Every year the Australian Sailing Club Conferences bring together clubs from across each state and are a great way to engage with other clubs and Australian Sailing. This year, due to COVID-19, the physical conferences were cancelled with a national agenda delivered online instead.  The 2020 Club Conference webinar series finished last week with an update from Australian Sailing CEO Ben Houston.

Over winter the nine-week series focused on participation and retention.  We were joined by industry experts including Dr Bridie O’Donnell, Director of the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation and Joel Steendam from Network Steadfast, and club representatives Susette Evans, Commodore of Princess Royal Sailing Club and Brett Yardley from Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club who shared their club success stories and best practice ideas. Together with Australian Sailing staff, the presentations were designed to help clubs develop skills, capacity and further improve their offerings to members.

Across the nine weeks the webinars had 786 live participants from 137 clubs and a further 1006 views online after the event. Thank you to all the club officials, volunteers and staff who attended.  We hope to see you all in person again next year.
