Jindy ’24 | The NSW States Match Report

Late Sunday afternoon, as a fleet of over 70 boats-worth congregated in and around Lake Jindabyne Sailing Club’s main clubhouse looking out over one of the most picturesque destinations for Hobie Cat sailing I’ve seen in a long time; Mads & Zac stated the most simplest of facts that summed up the whole weekend: “Jindabyne, more like Windabyne”.

Manly Junior States

Sydney Harbour turned on perfect conditions for the Manly Junior State Titles, hosted by Middle Harbour 16ft Skiff Club, 8-9 February. A competitive fleet battled it out on the water. From tight mark roundings to impressive downwind runs, the racing was nothing short of spectacular.

Charter Boats for Hansa Class Worlds 2025

The Australian & International Hansa Class Associations are seeking offers of Hansa Class sailboats and support RHIBs for charter to competitors in the 2025 Hansa Class World and International Championships, which incorporates the 2025 NSW and Australian Championships at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club from 23rd to 30th March 2025. Several of the competitors are unable to bring their own boats and would like to charter a boat locally.

Olympic Gold Medalist - Lily Xu - visits DBSC

DBSC sailors were treated to a visit from Olympic medalist Lijia (Lily) Xu. Lily won Gold for China in 2012 (London Olympics), and before that, bronze in 2008 (Beijing Olympics) amongst many other accolades racing in ILCA 6 Radials. She’s currently visiting Sydney to enjoy some warm weather and checkout all that our Harbour has to offer! We welcome Lily and her husband Jon Emmitt (Worlds Masters ILCA 6 Champ) to join us again on 8 February.

CYCA claims 2025 Helly Hansen International

Cole Tapper, Max Brennan, Jack Frewin & Hamish Vass have won the 2025 Helly Hansen International, claiming the Joy Ride Perpetual Trophy for a second time over Jeffrey Petersen, Enzo Menditto, Spencer Kriestein, Justin Callahan, Mitchell Callahan from the United States of America.

The 2025 Optimist Australian Championship was held at RQYS in January. This event is the sole selection event for the Australian Optimist Sailing Team (AOST) where representative teams are selected to attend the Optimist Class World Championship, European Championship and the Asian & Oceanian Championship. 2025 Australian F18 Catamaran Nationals to be held 21-26 January, hosted by Frankston Yacht Club (FYC). Wild winds and conditions tested all sailors on Port Phillip Bay. Day 4 brought some light shifty offshore breeze that we hadn’t seen yet this regatta.

TILLY CROWNED 2025 AUSTRALIAN WASZP CHAMPION

In what was a testing week for all competitors, Louis Tilly from NSW (Boogie Wonderland) has taken the title of 2025 Australian WASZP Champion. A true display of his consistency over the week, Tilly took out 6 of the 8 races as first over the line, and finished the regatta on an impressive net score of 6 points.

Double handers Henry and O’Shea claim inaugural Australian Ocean Racing Championship

Sailing Mistral double handed throughout the series, Rupert Henry and Greg O’Shea won the inaugural Australian Ocean Racing Championship (AORC), the Sydney pair applauded during the prize giving at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) in December. In a case of extremes, Mistral, a Lombard 34, won from the John Winning Jr skippered 100 footer, Andoo Comanche. Sebastian Bohm’s TP52, Smuggler, took third while Anthony and David Johnston’s RP72, URM Group was fourth. All four are from NSW.
