With 54 women on the water, including 5 from Gove and 20 interstate sailors, 6 Elliott 7 teams battled it out Round Robin style and our small but competitive open mixed fleet raced around Fannie Bay and into the harbour with a mix of around the cans and harbour courses.

Barney Walker and Jade Cole’s bid to win the Rudder Cup

A fleet of eight boats competed in the annual Val Hodge race hosted by RYCV, with this also being the third race of the 19/20 PPWCS series. This year the day had a different format with 2 races being held.

Marit Bouwmeester wins fourth Laser Radial World Championship as winds die in Melbourne
It may have been a case of “saved by the wind†for Rio Olympic champion, Marit Bouwmeester. The three-time world champion led by 24 points over night but saw her margin trimmed to just two points after the first race of the final day. A big wind shift caught a number of the top sailors out, and Bouwmeester, who received a yellow flag (penalty turns), finished 29th. This became her second “drop†but brought into play a 24th from yesterday.

Star-studded field with Olympic ambitions on show at Laser Radial Worlds in Melbourne
All three medallists from the Rio Olympics will take to the water off Sandringham Yacht Club to compete in the ILCA Laser Radial Women’s Championship which starts on Sunday. They head a star-studded field of 106 competitors from 40 countries, many of whom will be trying to qualify as their country’s representative at Tokyo 2020.
