Sustainability Month to Highlight Importance of Clean Practice in Sailing

Published Fri 01 Sep 2023

Throughout 2023 Australian Sailing is spotlighting specific themes that our sailing community has noted are important to them.

Every second month we have focused on a specific theme that aligns with the Strategic Foundations from our 10-year Strategic Plan ‘SAILING 2032’, with Diversity and Inclusion (February), Volunteers (May) and Participation (July) featured already this year.

This September, Australian Sailing is proud to shine the spotlight on sustainability in our sport, and the innovative ways in which clubs, class associations and other affiliated organisations are reducing their environmental impact. Throughout the month, Australian Sailing will share resources and showcase the work of one of our Supported Organisations, Clean Up Australia.

Winners of the 2022 Australian Sailing Sustainability Award, the Marine Environment Committee from Fremantle Sailing Club, is very active within its local community.

With the ocean, lakes and rivers as our playground, sailing and the environment are intrinsically connected. No matter the size of the action, each and every person or organisation can make a positive impact on the environment by adjusting practices with a focus on sustainability.

The Australian SailGP Team has a sustainability focus.

Over the course of the month, Australian Sailing will highlight internal and external resources, as well as showcase sustainability-focused stories from around the nation.

If you have a sustainability initiative at your club or class association that you would like to share and potentially see featured on the Australian Sailing social media channels, we would love to hear from you! Please contact us at news@sailing.org.au with a relevant image and short blurb about your project and we will be in touch.

Join us this September as we celebrate and highlight environmental sustainability within our sport. Ensure you and your club don’t miss any updates by following Australian Sailing on Facebook here.
