Strong Start to 2020 for WA

What a start to the decade for WA sailors. I’m going to preface this by apologising for missing individuals as the column just isn’t big enough for our WA sailor’s success stories.

During the first fortnight of 2020, whilst some have leapt, or been dragged kicking and screaming, back into the rat race and the dreaded staple of work. We have had sailors all over Australia and the world demonstrating their skills and winning regatta’s.

The Australian Youth Championships, held in fire ravaged Victoria, WA had a strong presence in 29er’s, 420’s, Laser’s, Nacra’s and Techno classes. Laser 4.7 - Toby Coote (First), Laser Radial - Michael Compton (First), Stefan Elliott-Shircore (Second), Nacra 15 - Georgia Payne and Nathan Bryant (First), Techno 293 - Jake Hindmarsh (First) and William Mcaullay (Second). From flying ants to Flying Fifteens at their Australian Championships this week at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. WA featuring highly in the leader-board top quarter with their eyes set on a top podium finish. Visit rqys.com.au.

Internationally, 470 teams of Mat Belcher and Will Ryan finished second and Nia Jerwood and Monique Devries finished fourth at the North American Championships. They now prepare for the Hempel World Cup Series in Miami.
