Scouts get OutThere

Published Tue 11 Feb 2020

The annual National Scouts Camp got OutThere!

The Scouts finished their final day of camp, participating in an adventure sailing down the river from the Oxenford Watersports Centre to the Southport Yacht Club venue on South Stradbroke Island. Using RS quests to sail out to the island, the participants were able to flex their new sailing muscles and learn new skills.

The Scouts Australia program provides fun youth development activities, building resilient and confident boys and girls. These values align perfectly with those of OutThere Sailing, and the club was able to provide the Scouts with a fun filled adventure, and the chance to try something new and exciting!

Mathew Dickinson, who manages the activities at Oxenford Watersports Centre, spoke of what a positive experience the scouts had in their brand-new RS Quests. Encouraging organisations like Scouts Australia to get involved in the OutThere program is a brilliant way to get teenagers involved and trying something new, in a comfortable and safe environment. Having their friends around often encourages individuals to try activities out of their comfort zone and learning new things. This is also the perfect way to gain exposure to teenagers who may have never considered sailing before and get them involved in the club in the future!

If you have a local community group in your area, encourage them to #getoutthere
