NSW SheSails Youth Leadership Workshops
Australian Sailing NSW is excited to announce that as part of our Her Sport Her Way grant, we are partnering with Carol Fox & Co to provide free leadership workshops for young female potential leaders.
Clubs can nominate one emerging female leader between the ages of 12 to 18 years old to attend a leadership workshop.
To ensure this program reaches the whole state, and connect regional clubs as well as metro clubs, we are hosting both online and face to face workshops. Places are limited to 30 people.
Flag Officers from each club in NSW will be sent an email asking them to nominate one young female from their club to attend these workshops.
The in-person workshop will be held on Friday 7th October, and the online workshops will be held over two half days on 26th September and 9th October.
Key workshop learnings will include:
- Becoming an authentic leader
- Becoming more visible as a role model in your club
- Understanding how to ask people for what you want
- Rapport Building Strategies
- The power of body language and words in communicating your message
- Impromptu Speaking
The aim of the project is to provide future female leaders with leadership skills to take back to their clubs and create change within their local communities. At the end of the season, the group will meet again to discuss how the workshops have assisted our young leaders to generate change.
NSW Office of Sport - Her Sport Her Way Grant
Australian Sailing has been successful in securing a grant of $48,250 from the NSW Office of Sport Her Sport Her Way Grant program for our SheSails Youth Leadership Growth Project.
The key objectives of the Program are:
- Increase the number of women and girls playing sport and improve the retention of adolescent girls
- Increase the number of women in leadership positions both on and off the water
- Improve gender inclusive sporting cultures and environments.
From now until December 2023, women and girls registering for an Australian Sailing instructor, assistant instructor, coach, or official’s course in NSW can use the discount code HERSPORT50 to receive 50% discount for the course fee.
