Newport Cruising Yacht Club sets sail with new clubhouse

Published Thu 09 Sep 2021

It’s all plain sailing for the Newport Cruising Yacht Club with a new clubhouse at Kippa Ring set to attract new members and build on the success of Queensland’s Gold medal winning Olympic sailors.

The club has 100 members, nearly half of whom are women and girls, who will now be able to use the clubhouse and training room to socialise, fundraise, hold trophy presentations and deliver training sessions.

With the clubhouse now ready for use, more sailors could soon be turning out for racing which happens every Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, or one of the club’s rendezvous cruising trips out to Moreton or Stradbroke Island.

The clubhouse was funded by a $127,691 investment through Round 7 of the Get Playing Places and Spaces program, along with a $22,952 grant and $50,000 interest free loan from Moreton Bay Regional Council.
