Moth Worlds

Published Wed 13 Nov 2019

Less than a month to go till a world of flying, or is that foiling, Moths descend on Perth. Hosted by the Mounts Bay Sailing Club from December 9, the 10-day event will feature some high-profile names in sailing as they look for their next adrenaline filled and challenging ride. Currently 113 entries from 71 clubs around the world have been received for the Open, Female, Junior & Non-Foiling Championships.

Naming sponsor Chandler McLeod’s moto of ‘Unleashing Potential’ is certainly what these sails will be aiming to do. Foiling Moths have just as much in common with sleek fighter aircraft as they do with their yachting ancestry. Structural carbon fibre encasing stainless steel rods and levers all designed to reduce drag and provide lift.

Get some friends, pack a lunch and go pull up anchor at a turning mark and watch an afternoon of foiling gybes and spectacular, boat breaking crashes when it doesn’t go to plan. Visit www.mothworlds.org
