International Women's Day 8th March

International Women’s day is a global day celebrated annually on the 8th of March, where everyone can step forward to truly #embraceequity. The day celebrates social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. A few of our NSW clubs will be celebrating International Women’s Day with a breakfast, dinner, a festival and a regatta.

 

Gosford Sailing Club are having a She Sails International Women’s day event on Thursday 2nd of March 2023 from 6-9pm. Everyone who supports women’s participation and leadership in sailing is welcomed to this special dinner, which will be addressed by two distinguished speakers. Two awards will be presented, one to recognize a leading women sailors at the club and one to recognize a Club member who showed leadership at the Club in establishing the She Sails initiative at Gosford.

Two guest speakers will join this special dinner: Liesl Tesch MP; Gold medal in sailing at 2016 Rio Paralympics, Gold medal in sailing at 2015 Melbourne IFDS, Gold medal in sailing at 2012 London Paralympics. Claire Heenan; Champion at 2012 Laser (4.7) Masters World Championship, Champion in IRC division at 2019 Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta.

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia will be hosting their annual International Women’s day breakfast on Wednesday the 8th of March at 07:30am. Inviting members and non members for a delicious breakfast and to listen to their inspiring panel including Kathy Veel, Lauren Tishendorf and Nicola Wakefield Evans AM. Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club have their 7th annual She Sails @ NCYC Development Regatta over the weekend of 4-5th of March. This regatta has successfully introduced their Sailing Academy graduates into the fun of racing an ‘around the buoys’ regatta on our fleet of six Force 24 inshore keelboats. As well as their Academy graduates, they extended invitations to several other local clubs so their developing women sailors can access this opportunity and network in our region.

Lake Macquarie City Council is running a Women in Sport Festival at Speers Point Park from Saturday 4th of March to Saturday 11th of March. This inclusive event held over a week, offers something for everyone, from curious sporting newcomers to aspiring professional athletes.
