WA Regional Servicing Grant 2022
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries are strong supporters of activity and engagement in the regions, with the annual Regional Servicing Grant providing funding to build the capacity and capability of WA Clubs and Discover Sailing Centres, located throughout Western Australia.
2022 was a very successful and active year throughout WA, from Exmouth to Esperance. Along with Club’s own initiatives and projects, the Regional Servicing Grant allowed a number of capacity building projects to be delivered, supported by the DLGSC.
Highlights include:
- Six new Dinghy Instructors trained at Carnarvon Yacht Club.
- Ten new Safety Boat Operators at Exmouth Yacht Club.
- A week of Instructor mentoring and training at Exmouth Yacht Club, resulting in 18 Tackers 1 and six Tackers 2 sailors graduating, along with seven Green Fleet sailors training all week.
- A Safety and Sea Survival Course at Esperance Bay Yacht Club for ten people.
- Five new Dinghy Instructors trained at Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club.
- Four New Keelboat Instructors in the South West.
- A new Senior Keelboat Instructor located in the South West.
- Nine new Dinghy Instructors and six Assistant Instructors in the South West.
- Six new Dinghy Instructors trained at Geraldton Yacht Club.
- Along with visitation, advocacy and Discover Sailing Centre reviews conducted by Australian Sailing staff.
We greatly thank the DLGSC for their ongoing support of boating in regional WA. If you are a regional Club not yet in contact with us, please touch base to see how we can work together to deliver successful projects and outcomes via the 2023 Regional Servicing Grant.
Discover Sailing Days, presented by SunSmart kick off
The Discover Sailing Day presented by SunSmart commenced with East Fremantle Yacht Club on Sunday 23rd October. The aim of the programme is to promote SunSmart behaviours amongst sailors and the sailing community. Any affiliated club that is hosting a Discover Sailing Day can apply for the grant of $1000. Australian Sailing WA provides SunSmart branded merchandise for the Club to use and hand out to volunteers and participants. After the day, pictures are posted to social media to help drive the SunSmart message and hopefully get more people sailing on the water! So far, eight clubs have applied for the grant and four clubs have hosted Discover Sailing Days presented by SunSmart.

- Mounts Bay Sailing Club, 27th November
- Perth Dinghy Sailing Club, 3rd December

revSPORT Training and Feedback Session
Australian Sailing WA will be delivering a revSPORT training session in person or online, the details are as follows:
- Friday 16 December
- 1000 - 1045: revSPORT training session
- 1000 - 1200: revSPORT feedback session and Q & A
- Australian Sailing WA office, in the grounds of Royal Perth YC

Sport & Recreation Events Funding Program to reopen 30th January 2023
Funding to secure and deliver mass participation sporting events across the State running between June and December 2023.
Sporting agencies of all sizes - from national leagues to community organisations - are invited to apply for the Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program.
Hosting a robust and diverse variety of sporting events will support the WA economy, drive tourism, and allow fans of all codes to watch and take part in their favourite sports.
Grants of varying sizes, up to $50,000, are available for successful applicants. Next round opens 4:00pm 30th January 2023

500 moorings added to the SUMS scheme Swan River
The Shared Use Moorings System (SUMS) aims to increase access to recreational moorings. Find out how the SUMS work, their locations and read our frequently asked questions.
The Department of Transport (DoT) has implemented a Shared Use Moorings System (SUMS) for recreational vessels to increase access to recreational moorings and provide greater opportunity for people to safely enjoy the State’s most popular boating areas.
The SUMS maximise the use of existing infrastructure allowing vessel owners that do not have a mooring licence the opportunity to use a participating mooring for short durations if not being used by the mooring licensee.

The Accessibility Champion Course
Disability Sports Australia (DSA) has launched a free, online course to champion greater accessibility within local sporting clubs and leisure providers for people with disability. This free online course has been designed so you can learn at your own pace and complete 4 modules anytime, anywhere, on any device.
