Published Tue 17 Jul 2018

This week, lone Australian duo, Brett Burvill and Max Puttman from Jervoise Bay Sailing Club, ventured to the most North Eastern tip of Spain to Ballena Alegre, Sant Pere Pescador, Costa Brava for the 2018 European F18 Championships.

This championship is hosting 72 competitors from 18 nations over the weeklong event which concluded on Thursday. The Formula 18 Class is a non-foiling, restricted development catamaran established in the early 1990’s. 2 people sail and trapeze these 5.5m long, 2.6m wide and 180kg featherweights up and down the course with a whopping 21 square meters of gennaker sails.

Burvill and Puttman found their groove early with twin second places in as many races. They slipped into second place overall midway through the regatta but fought back to second with one day of racing remaining. Full results, pictures and news feed visit www.cvballena-alegre.sailti.com.
