Five seasons in one day for the Applecross Cup

The Applecross Cup is half way through the eight-race program, stretched over five months.

124 entries in 11 fleets and classes from clubs all over Western Australia have been rigged up at South of Perth Yacht Club and Coffee Point since May.

Optimist’s, Pelican’s, Lasers, Laser Radials and Laser 4.7’s, Moth’s, 125’s and 29er’s, Flying Fifteens Open Bic and even Windsurfers have all added to the myriad of sails and sailors at each event.

Race 4 was held last weekend with breaks in the inclement weather Perth has suffered through of late. Five races were held in what seemed like all five weather cycles over the course and the day.

It started with light and gentle Northeaster as the dark clouds of the impending doom built on the horizon. As the clouds descended so did the wind as it whipped up a frenzy of wind and waves. Just as quickly as it arrived it lifted, and the rain came.

For those that didn’t trust what the forecast predicted, certainly had an enjoyable and action-packed day on the water. A fortnight off now before the subsequent races are held culminating in an all weekend regatta in early September. Click here for all results and photo gallery.
