Drummoyne Sailing Club - 110/50 Year Celebrations

Drummoyne Sailing Club held the 110/50 celebrations on Saturday 4th Nov to commemorate the 110-year anniversary of DSC plus the 50-year anniversary of the Snails Bay Sailing Club joining DSC and establishing a range of dinghy and junior classes at DSC . Sunday 5th was the “Festival of Sail”  with a Sail Past at 1.30 pm and the “ Three Island Fun race” from 2.00pm.

Saturday evening celebrations were  an outstanding success with over 170 attending and including past, present and future members from 90 to 9 years of age. The evening kicked off with DSC president Tim Valtwies outlining a  history of  DSC  and recent accomplishments and the 10-year strategic plan for DSC.
 
DSC Club Commodore Steve Brady then spoke about the importance of junior sailing for DSC and the Learn to Sail and Sailing Academy and the key role of supporting sailing pathways for members and volunteers. Steve then introduced a short video for Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine who referenced their time at DSC as juniors and the great memories they have for DSC. Olivia and Evie are campaigning for selection in the 49er class to represent Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The official ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a new honour board for 50 years of Sabot Sailing at DSC by Steve Brady and the President of the Dinghy Division Lily Peel. 

The evening was followed by live music and a screening of the pictorial history of the club for every decade from 1923 and covered all classes such as 16 ft Skiffs, Sabot, OK’s, Flying 11, Laser, TS 16, Cherubs and Yachts. Members were then able to view a great range of trophies and memorabilia from the last 110 years !!
