Community Sport & Athlete Survey - Now Open!

Published Wed 22 Feb 2023

The Community Sport and Athlete Survey from the Australian Sports Foundation is now open.

The survey seeks to understand the factors impacting community sporting clubs and athletes in Australia over the past 12 months.

We are seeking your organisation’s support to promote the survey to your athletes (HP, pathways and recreational), clubs, members and state associations. With your help we can ensure the perspectives and experiences of your athletes, your clubs and your diverse sporting community are captured in this important work.

The simple online survey takes around 15 minutes. Everyone who completes the survey can apply for the chance to win one of 15 x $500 cash grants to support their local club or athlete career. The survey has specific questions for clubs and athletes with topics including:

  • athlete challenges and motivations
  • costs and income
  • funding and fundraising
  • club challenges
    • changes in participation and volunteer numbers.

We will also seek, wherever possible, to provide sport-specific data for those sports who we capture enough responses from. We are also working with peak bodies and institutes to promote the survey.

To assist stakeholders promote the survey we have developed design assets and suggested copy. This folder contains:

● A Guide for promoting the survey that includes copy to simplify inclusion in a newsletter, email or website article.

● Design assets (square and rectangle with different imagery) that can be used for newsletters or your website

● Posters (4 variations with different images) with a QR code that clubs can print out for areas where their athletes congregate.

There will be a number of posts on the ASF social channels over the next few weeks. If your channels could share these posts and tag your state associations that would be greatly appreciated.

The Community Sport and Athlete Survey will close on Sunday the 19th of March.

The research findings will help the ASF focus its support and work with the philanthropic community, NSO’s and other key stakeholders to provide solutions for the sector.

The ASF is committed to raising philanthropic funds to help create a thriving sports sector, and for advocating for the critical role sport plays in the physical, social and mental wellbeing of Australia.

With the green and gold runway to Brisbane 2032 well underway, it is important that we seek all opportunities to generate additional funding opportunities to help strengthen the sector from grassroots clubs through to elite representatives.
