Clippers Arrival in Fremantle

Published Fri 20 Dec 2019

The Clippers have arrived in Fremantle at the end of Leg Three of their 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht. Well most of them have arrived. ‘Unicef’ after a diversion to Durban, South Africa for a medical evacuation of a crew member with appendicitis is continuing to race to Fremantle. Whereas ‘Punta del Este’ and ‘Visit Sanya, China’ departed Cape Town, South Africa two weeks behind after conducting repairs on damage they suffered during the start of this leg.

Crews are enjoying a well-deserved rest and the yachts won’t take long to dry out under these WA hot conditions. A stark contrast to the weather they’ve been sailing in these last three weeks. The boats are berthed at Fremantle Sailing Club with a hive of activity to prepare them for their next adventure but not before the public have had their fill. Visit the FSC website to see an array of public and free activities scheduled around the arrival, and departure of these impressive yachts and crew.

Leg Three Results: ‘Qingdao’, ‘Ha Long Bay, Viet nam’, ‘Imagine your Korea’

Leg Four starts Sunday December 22, on their 4,000 nautical-mile journey to the Whitsundays, Qld via the bottom of Tasmania. Visit clipperroundtheworld.com or fsc.com.au for all the details.
