Century of Fremantle

Published Wed 23 Sep 2020

Last weekend the Fremantle Sailing Club threw the event of a century as they turned 100 years young. The FSC’s spectacular waterfront location overlooking the Indian Ocean, just minutes from the bustling hub of Fremantle’s social and tourist strips, came to life on Saturday night for their birthday party.

With a turbulent past, inactive years and a ‘family tree’ of clubs, associations and committees dating back to 1872, since the foundation of ‘Fremantle Sailing Club’ in 1920 they have gone from strength to strength. The club’s supported by a thriving membership with a diverse range of ages and interests who enjoy a full calendar of events throughout the seasons with competitive sailing in a number of fleets and a Junior Section and Training Academy dedicated to introducing the next generation of sailors to our wonderful sport.

It’s not all about sailing though, other sections such as Cruising, Power Yachts, Diving, Angling and Game Fishing are equally as keen to promote their passion and club. Off the water, the club boasts they have the only Pipes and Drums Band that is part of a sailing club in the world.

Flag Officers, Members, Guests and Staff looked resplendent all dress to the nines in their best Gatsby attire last weekend to celebrate. Attendees enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal, live music and a century of memories with many more to come.
